Since we emptied the beer cooler for Lunar Rendezbrew 29, we have a nice opportunity to knock out some lagered beers. So we jumped into this German Pilsner. We specifically brewed this beer as part of the Austin Zealot’s Inquisition competition. Their eleventh category is the Crusade. It specifies that the beer be 11 SRM and 11 IBU. We should be really close here on the SRM. The IBU, well… we didn’t want to go that low, as we still want to drink this beer and not have it be bland. (5 gallon batch) Update: This beer took third place in the Austin Zealot’s Inquisition competition in the Crusade category. A London Brown Ale is often described as a mild sweet stout or a dark mild with a slightly sweeter side. It is a unique beer to brew, in that it is low alcohol, but retains much of the body and character of dark strong styles. It is not commonly brewed in today’s market. We brewed this beer in collaboration with Dark Empire Brewing as part of the Nuts & Bolts competition with the Bay Area Mashtronauts. This is beer number one. We should get results back in late July. It is a little on the low side abv wise by about 1%, but otherwise,Read More →
One of the key requirements of the Master Homebrewer Program is to brew things outside of your comfort zone. This may include lagers, meads, sours, and ciders. We created this citric cider for the Red Earth Brewer’s Spring Brew-off. We wanted something refreshing and light for the summertime.
