We specifically brewed this beer as part of the Austin Zealot’s Inquisition competition. Their eleventh category is the Crusade. It specifies that the beer be 11 SRM and 11 IBU. We should be really close here on the SRM. The IBU, well… we didn’t want to go that low, as we still want to drink this beer and not have it be bland. (5 gallon batch) Update: This beer took third place in the Austin Zealot’s Inquisition competition in the Crusade category. Pre-Boil Gravity: 1.033 Original Gravity: 1.045 Final Gravity: 1.010 ABV: 4.6                         Read More →

…Everything is fine. Sweet meet heat in this pineapple infused dragon pepper beer. That’s right, herbs and spices. Generally speaking, a jalapeno pepper is 2500-5000 Scoville units, where as, the Thai dragon pepper is 50,000 to 100,000 Scoville units. We grew this batch of dragon peppers in our backyard. Dried them in a dehumidifier, and then ground them into a spice. Unfortunately, the heat dominates EVERYTHING we’ve put it in to date. Until now… This 5 gallon batch came out sweet, but it has a nice heat on the backend. We are planning to put it on tap at the 2023 Boot Brew Festival inRead More →

As we bid farewell to the original Nintendo themed beers of 2021, we welcome the aliens theme of 2022. This Christmas Cream Ale features vanilla and cinnamon and hopes to prepare us for the upcoming Holidays. As a challenge, the Bakfish Brew Crew, threw out a Christmas treat to be created (non dog treat) by the leftover grain bill. As those who know me, my staple Christmas treat is the Snickerdoodle cookie. This beer plays off the Snickerdoodle flavor, and as such, the grains will be utilized to make “Snickerbrewdles Cookies.” That’s right, we are making beer cookies with beer grain. First, here is aRead More →

Links Hyrule Lawnmower

Yes, the logo is an ode to St. Arnold’s Fancy Lawnmower… and it crosses over with my favorite video game series of all time, Zelda. Link was a master at collecting rupees in the tall grasses surrounding the Hyrule Kingdom. With this recipe, we’ve collected lots of hoppy flavors in this American Ale. It “could” be classified as a pale, however, the CaraRed gave it a darker color and the hops provide such as bitterness, that it really is not a pale ale. None-the-less… pull up a friend and enjoy a cold one together because – it’s dangerous to go it alone. Original Gravity: 1.060Read More →

Poppin' Wheelies

Originally released in 1984, Excitebike featured 10 courses of logs, jumps, and turbo pads to motocross. You had to watch your temperature to prevent over heating, and if you fell off your bike, you likely had to Frogger your way back across the field of competitors. We watched our temperatures on this beer and may have fermented a bit on the high end, but we’re looking forward to this hopped up brew. Recipe is for 10 gallon batch.
