An American IPA. This is a bitter beer, and it has turned out to be one of our favorite IPAs that we’ve made. We didn’t podium with it at Eureka Height’s in their second annual Lupulin Quest competition, but we brewed this beer, and drank all of it before the judging was even completed. You could say we liked it a lot. Special thanks to Todd Limbaugh for inspiring us and pointing out the competition. Pre-boil Gravity: 1.055 Original Gravity: 1.062 Final Gravity: 1.014 ABV:6.3%                                         Read More →

‘ULA’ULA PIA – Hawaiian for Red Beer This is a double dry hopped specialty IPA. We would have liked the red to have come through a bit more, but this is a smooth, easy drinking, nice IPA. We entered this into the second annual Eureka Heights Lupulin Quest Homebrew Competition but did not podium. Pre-boil Gravity: 1.066 Original Gravity: 1.074 Final Gravity: 1.009 ABV:8.9%                                                                                   Read More →

1st Place – Sweet Stout : 2023 Boot Brew Festival, Eunice Louisiana. This beer favors a porter and not a stout, but the bitterness will make it taste like a stout because of the coffee. I was torn as to what to call it. Our local brewery, Bakfish, recently started roasting their own coffee beans, so as a challenge, we decided to make coffee beers for February. I’ve enjoyed this fireside, but you must like coffee to enjoy this beer, as it is bold in coffee flavor. Note that this was a 10 gallon preboil volume that yielded just over 8 gallons at kegging withRead More →

As we bid farewell to the original Nintendo themed beers of 2021, we welcome the aliens theme of 2022. This Christmas Cream Ale features vanilla and cinnamon and hopes to prepare us for the upcoming Holidays. As a challenge, the Bakfish Brew Crew, threw out a Christmas treat to be created (non dog treat) by the leftover grain bill. As those who know me, my staple Christmas treat is the Snickerdoodle cookie. This beer plays off the Snickerdoodle flavor, and as such, the grains will be utilized to make “Snickerbrewdles Cookies.” That’s right, we are making beer cookies with beer grain. First, here is aRead More →

White Labs Swag

Ok, so our Punch-Out Porter beer didn’t win a competition based on taste itself. Womp Womp. But the brew’s Little Mac label was selected out of hundreds of entries into the Brew Your Own Magazine’s (BYO.com) 26th annual beer label competition as the bronze winner! Today we received swag from BYO care of White Labs Brewing Company including FREE PUREPITCH YEAST. So it is time to brew more beer! Thanks to BYO for a fun competition. We have thoroughly enjoyed this year’s original Nintendo label theme and we look forward to revealing the new theme for 2022! It is coming quick… Update: WOOT! GrogTag, ourRead More →

Final Fantasy Dungeon Ale

I probably spent more time on Final Fantasy for Nintendo than any other game for that platform. I could not beat Chaos, the final boss. I grinded daily, eventually weekly, finally monthly to upgrade my characters. I just could not get them strong enough to beat the game. Then one fateful summer, I went and visited my parents and my little half brother who was six years younger than me. And Joey, my youngest sibling, deleted my saved game. So ultimately, I never beat it. I’ve beaten other versions of the game, but the original proved too hard and time consuming. None-the-less, it was anRead More →

The Hazy IPA preferred by ninjas everywhere. Ryu agrees. This beer is our first attempt at a Hazy IPA, and we are planning to enter it into the 6th Anniversary brew competition at Bakfish Brewery.
