In 2633 AD, two commandos, Bill Rizer and Lance Bean, of Earth Marine Corp’s Contra unit set out to destroy the alien forces on the Galuga archipelago near New Zealand. This beer honors their alien eradicating endeavors, and in the event they failed… well, try try again with an extra thirty lives or so… Konami code style: ↑ ↑ ↓ ↓ ← → ← → B A Start. It’s been a while since we’ve brewed a good hop forward IPA so we are going to organize the hell outta this one and see what we can produce…  12 gallon batch (a little more than 10 gallons going into the fermenter). Little Mac is about to attack with this graham cracker vanilla porter. This completely custom built recipe hopes to provide a full bodied porter with a sweet backend. 11 gallon batch. The first beer brewed for 2021 and it’s a doozie. After a round or two of beers at a recent Bakfish Homebrew Meetup, a question was thrown out there to allow each person at the table to throw out an ingredient, and we, as a group, would decide on two. Randy Daily threw out “mushrooms”… and it stuck. Vienna Malt was the other ingredient. Therefore, this is our Vienna Malt lager with Shiitake and Porcinni Mushrooms. For those wondering, it is an “in your face” flavor. It’s drinkable, but you won’t be burning through a six pack. That said, I’ve made beer bread with it,Read More →

This beer is the Yoda’s Yuletide from 2019. It’s our first attempt to replicate a beer. We swore we wouldn’t do Yoda’s Yuletide again, as it pushes our current system to its limits. However, when your mom says she really likes that beer and wants it for Christmas, you do what you need to do to make mom happy. Our only tweak this go round is that we soaked the cherries in Tito’s vodka. It “might” have added a little warmth, but taste wise, I wouldn’t be able to tell you the difference between the two. It was easier than pasteurizing on the stove topRead More →

Kentucky common beer is a once-popular style of ale from the area in and around Louisville, Kentucky from the 1850s until Prohibition. This style is rarely brewed commercially today. It was also locally known as dark cream common beer, cream beer or common beer. The beer was top-fermented and was krausened up to 10% making it quite highly carbonated. Like cream ale, it was consumed fresh, usually as draught beer. In 1913 it was estimated that 80% of the beer consumed in Louisville was of this type. Many local breweries made only this style of beer. This particular beer was brewed as part of theRead More →

Mac could defuse a bomb with a paper clip or build a hang glider with satellite parts. Around the beer brewing equipment, we find ourselves often having to pull a MacGyver to stop a leak or solve other beer brewing problems. This beer disappeared quickly as we enjoyed it immensely. We also had a little fun with the packaging creating MacGyver like emergency kits that we attached to the bottle. Gary Coleman was solid gold with Drummond family. This beer is ode to Arnold and Willis and the troubles they procured. This is our first attempt at a hard cider. It turns out it is super simple to make… so we plan to do at least one cider a year in the future. We tend to think that cider’s work best in the fall. We love the apple, cinnamon, raisin, autumn type flavors that you can work into numerous recipes in this category. Make no mistake about it, this beer was smooth and easy drinking. The style is “irish red ale”, however, it’s a bit on the dark side color wise.  A tribute to Bob Ross, the Joy of Painting, and the hours of trees and whispy clouds he painted on tv in my childhood. We slid a bit of a B3 growler into the label artwork as well… And we still love the quote “Whatever makes you happy, you put in your world.” Pre-Boil Volume: 12.5G Original Gravity: 1.071 Final Gravity: 1.013 ABV: 7.6%                           Read More →
